Surprising Causes of iPhone Mail Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; max-width: 600px;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/iphonemail.jpg\" alt=\"Daily Life of Japanese in Korea\" \/><\/center> <\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 2em;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">\n<p>Have you ever been frustrated that your PC can send and receive emails perfectly, but your iPhone\u2019s default Mail app won\u2019t work?<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I finally solved a problem that had persisted for a long time, so I\u2019m summarizing it here as a reference.<\/p>\n<p>I had tried everything for over six months without success\u2026<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.5em 0;\"><b>Situation of the Problem<\/b><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Using multiple email accounts on Xserver.<\/li>\n<li>On the iPhone\u2019s default Mail app, only one account could not receive emails\u2014even though no error appeared.<\/li>\n<li>The problematic account previously used Google Workspace with Gmail servers.<\/li>\n<li>Sending and receiving worked fine on Outlook or on a PC.<\/li>\n<li>I consulted advanced AI tools (ChatGPT and Gemini) multiple times, but all I got were the usual responses: \u201cCheck your settings again.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u201cSettings are correct, but it doesn\u2019t work.\u201d I wrestled with this contradiction for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, I also contacted both Xserver and Apple for advice. Xserver replied to contact the app developer, while Apple didn\u2019t respond at all.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, the only thing left to hope for was that a future iOS update would fix the issue. Every time iOS updated, I had to delete the mail account, restart the iPhone, and set it up again.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.5em 0;\"><b>Breakthrough: A \u201cNew Perspective\u201d from AI<\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"> This time, I tried a different approach and finally identified the cause. In short, the problem wasn\u2019t the \u201csettings\u201d themselves\u2014it was a combination of the server\u2019s \u201cfolder structure\u201d and iPhone\u2019s \u201coverprotective communication features.\u201d <\/div>\n<p> &nbsp; <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.5em 0;\"><b>Old server \u201cremnants\u201d were stopping synchronization<\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"> The key breakthrough was deleting old remnants of Gmail folders that had been left on the server. Even if no errors appear in the settings screen, IMAP (synchronization) can get stuck or loop endlessly because of these old folders. Once I cleaned them up, the iPhone finally started receiving emails. <\/div>\n<p> &nbsp; <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.5em 0;\"><b>iPhone\u2019s peculiar \u201cWi-Fi communication restriction\u201d<\/b><\/div>\n<p> What puzzled me was that I could only receive emails if <b>Wi-Fi was turned off<\/b>. Even though the same Wi-Fi worked fine on a PC, the iPhone seemed to reject it. This appears to be caused by iOS features interfering: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Mail Privacy Protection:<\/b> Since it routes through Apple\u2019s proxy server, Xserver may flag it as a \u201csuspicious connection.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>IP Address Tracking Limitation:<\/b> Attempting to anonymize communication over Wi-Fi can interfere with synchronization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> &nbsp; <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.5em 0;\"><b>Checklist to Solve the Problem<\/b><\/div>\n<p> If you\u2019re despairing that \u201cthe settings should be correct but it still doesn\u2019t work,\u201d try the following: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to webmail and delete unnecessary (or suspicious) folders. In my case, I deleted the &#8220;<b>[gmail]<\/b>&#8221; folder.<\/li>\n<li>On the iPhone, go to <b>Settings &gt; Mail &gt; Privacy Protection<\/b> and turn off \u201cProtect Mail Activity.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p> &nbsp; <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.5em 0;\"><b>Finally<\/b><\/div>\n<p> Sometimes, \u201ctechnically correct settings\u201d aren\u2019t enough. Device-specific quirks and compatibility issues can prevent things from working.
